    FREE THE SNAKE FLOTILLA

    This past September 12th, hundreds of people gathered on the Snake River to demand immediate action on the removal of the lower Snake River dams. These dams violate the 1855 Treaty - federal promises made to the Nez Perce (Nimíipuu) people - by driving salmon to extinction. No salmon, no orcas. It’s that simple - these dams are actively starving these sacred relatives.

    The historic successes of the Elwha and Klamath rivers remind us that river restoration works & when dams come down, salmon recolonize. Breaching the lower Snake River dams is the single most effective action to honor Tribal rights, restore river health and bring the salmon home. It’s time to breach the dams. Free the Snake!

All are welcome to the Buffalo in Nimíipuu Country summit to learn about the development of the Nimíipuu Buffalo Program, logistics, its benefits, and more! This is also a great opportunity to gain a better understanding of the buffalo's historical and cultural significance on the region and what their return means for the future of the Nimíipuu community.

    CARRYING US FORWARD INDIGENOUS FILM FESTIVAL

    Call for submissions for Nimíipuu Protecting the Environment’s second annual Indigenous Film Festival  in November, 2026.  Deadline for submissions September 1st, 2026.

    This festival is a platform for Indigenous voices and for collaborative storytelling rooted in land, water and responsibility. CARRYING US FORWARD showcases work that explores the relationship between Indigenous peoples and the lands and waters they have stewarded since time immemorial. We welcome films (shorts, feature length and everything in between) by Indigenous creators and films developed in respectful partnership with Indigenous communities that explore treaty rights, First Foods, environmental protection and the intergenerational work of sustaining culture. Bringing buffalo to Nimíipuu homelands is a commitment to feeding our people with strength & dignity and a powerful step toward Nimiipuu food security & sovereignty. Invest in the health of our people, the vitality of our lands and the continuation of First Foods traditions. We encourage enrolled members to express their interest in seeing buffalo restored to Nimíipuu lands and stay engaged with this initiative. Below is a link to email and call your Nez Perce Council Members and Tribal Representatives requesting a Nez Perce Tribal Buffalo Ranch in our Homelands.
