NIMÍIPUU GROWN

  • Growing and harvesting food strengthens security, health and our ties to the land. Through gardens, orchards and First Foods harvesting, youth help inspire and secure food sovereignty and health rooted in our treaties. This vital work expands their knowledge of gardens, fruit trees and native plants, supports traditional diets, nourishes elders and families and equips young leaders to sustain the circle of life for generations.

  • YOUTH GARDEN & ORCHARD PROJECT

    In Lapwai, we are developing a Youth Community Garden and Orchard to increase access to fresh, healthy food for young people and their families. As a rural community, Lapwai faces challenges in accessing nutritious produce, making this program an important step toward long-term food security. Youth participate in planting, growing and harvesting food, gaining practical skills while building confidence, leadership and a meaningful connection to their food and the land.

  • GROWING THE FUTURE

    As the initiative expands to other Nimíipuu communities, it will continue to prioritize community-driven hands-on learning, inclusion and shared benefit. All food grown in the garden and orchard is distributed freely, supporting equitable access and community well-being.

    This effort, alongside our Buffalo Project and First Foods Program, plays a vital role in strengthening food security and revitalizing food sovereignty within our community.

    Nimíipuu Grown is a collaborative initiative. We welcome contributors with diverse knowledge, skills and lived experience. Whether you are interested in volunteering, sharing expertise or supporting community-based food programs, we invite you to connect with us and become part of this growing effort.

    Interested in getting involved, learning more or offering support? Reach out anytime. You are also welcome to visit the project in Lapwai. To schedule a visit or attend a weekly gathering, contact our Project Manager, Alexandra. Regular meetings are held Wednesday afternoons at the Nimiipuu Canoe Site in Lapwai on Bever Grade Road.
