FREE THE SNAKE FLOTILLA
JOIN US SEPT 11th - 12th for the 2026 FREE THE SNAKE GATHERING at Hell's Gate State Park (Group Shelter #6) in Lewiston, ID. Time: Friday 5:30 - 8:30 PM and Flotilla begins 9 AM Saturday.
This special two-day event will be the biggest rally on the river in years - also featuring on-land activities including inspiring Tribal speakers, special guests, food, live music, a film screening, interactive art and more! Bring your boat and join our paddle or come cheer from shore. No matter your experience level, there’s a place for you.

5:30-7:00pm - Dinner, live music & interactive Get Out the Vote art activities along the banks of the Snake River.
7:00-8:30pm - Outdoor film screening of The River Remembers, a new film by Setting Sun Circle. The River Remembers follows Tribal members of the Elwha and lower Klamath Rivers as they lead the largest dam removals in U.S. history, restoring salmon and renewing culture after a century of struggle.
8:30-9:00pm - Speakers and closing.
We recommend reserving a campsite at Hells Gate State Park for Friday night. See below for information on reserving a campsite.

9:00-9:30am - Gather at the Asotin Boat Ramp (light breakfast and coffee provided).
9:30-11:30am - Rally on the water for a free-flowing lower Snake River!
Participants will paddle from the Asotin Boat Ramp to Hells Gate State Park (a 2.6-mile paddle downstream).
Please bring your own non-motorized watercrafts. See below for information on renting a watercraft.
If you’re not able to join us on the river, you are welcome to meet us at Hells Gate State Park and join for the on-land activities.
11:30am-12:00pm: Flotilla welcoming blessing at Hells Gate shoreline.
12:00pm-1:00pm: Salmon lunch and partner tabling.
1:00pm-2:00pm: Speaker program.
2:00-2:30pm: Closing with a blessing, song and drums. A shuttle will be available back to the Asotin Boat Ramp from Hells Gate.

Reserving a campsite:
Enter the zip code of your residential address.
From the calendar on the left, select a check-in date of Friday, September 11 and a check-out date of Saturday, September 12. Click the green button below the calendar that says “Map View for 9/15 to 9/16”.
Once in map view, if you have any requirements for your site (e.g. ADA sites, RV sites, etc.), check them in on the left. Then, from the map, select any of the three loops. Within those loops, select the site you want to reserve.
Click the red “Reserve” button on the left. Input your vehicle, guest, and payment information, and then select the blue “Reserve” button from the bottom right. Note down what site you reserved before closing out.
When arriving at Hells Gate State Park on September 11, make sure to check in at the Park Office before heading to your campsite and let them know you are a part of the Nimiipuu Protecting the Environment flotilla.
Where to rent watercrafts:
University of Idaho Outdoor Rental Center (Moscow, ID)
Lewis and Clark College Float and Tote Rental Center (Lewiston, ID)
If you are participating in the flotilla, you are responsible for bringing your own non-motorized watercraft (kayak, canoe, raft, etc.). Personal Flotation Devices are also strongly encouraged.
