Youth Garden and Orchard Project
Our most recent effort with our Nimiipuu Canoe project and working with the Lapwai Elementary School After School Program has been to develop other ways to help the youth expand their knowledge of gardens and fruit trees. As Lapwai is fairly rural, we are developing a Youth Community Garden and Orchard to ensure that the local youth and their community have access to fresh fruits and vegetables that will help meet their food and nutritional needs.
Our goals are to provide the youth and community with educational opportunities in all aspects of the project and to encourage their agency in growing their own food.

As we work to establish a meaningful and effective program for the Lapwai community, we also plan to eventually expand the garden and fruit tree orchard to the other two main communities on our reservation. This program aims to be inclusive and accessible to all community members. Fruits and vegetables that are harvested from our garden and orchard will be distributed without discrimination.
We feel that this effort, along with our new “Nimiipuu Buffalo Project,” will develop food security and promote food sovereignty for the Nimiipuu and other community members.

This is a collaborative project which welcomes contributors with diverse knowledge and skill sets. We invite all who would like to be a part of this program to contact us at the emails below. If you are interested in learning more, getting involved , or providing other support please feel free to contact us.
